Hello and welcome to the Wren Canine Hydrotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre.
We are an animal loving and dedicated team who have worked in the animal/veterinary field for many years; we are dedicated to helping all our patients and offer a transport service to collect and drop off your pet and a day patient service for the ultimate rehabilitation experience!
HOW CAN YOU HELP MY FURRY FRIEND
• HYDROTHERAPY – a form of physiotherapy using water to rehabilitate and improve an animal’s function
Dogs suffering from medical conditions or after surgery benefit from Hydrotherapy; treatments require veterinary consent.
Here are just some of the benefits gained;
<> Increased cardiovascular fitness <> Pain relief <> Reduction of swelling
<> Reduction of stiffness <> Increased mental stimulation <> Muscle strength
<> Range of movement <> Joint mobilisation <> Improved gait pattern
• PHYSIOTHERAPY – a vital part of any surgery…just as important as the surgery itself!
Not only is it important for post surgical recovery, but beneficial for pre-existing conditions such as arthritis, developmental disease, and also neurological conditions – all treatments require veterinary consent, and are performed by a highly experienced physiotherapist.
Here are some examples of where Physiotherapy plays a vital role;
<> Maintaining mobility and proprioception
<> Maintaining muscle mass and strength, stimulation of nerves
<> Prevention of injury due to pre-existing conditions and compensation
<> Preventing contracture of soft tissues
• ELECTRICAL MUSCLE SIMULATION (EMS) – used to reduce muscle atrophy by stimulating motor fibres.
Low to medium levels of electrical current passed through the body aiding muscle function, reducing pain signals and reducing muscle atrophy and it is the administration of an electrical current to depolarize the motor nerve and produce skeletal muscle contraction. Electrotherapy at cellular level causes nerve cell excitation and protein synthesis.
At tissue level it causes muscle contraction helping to strengthen weak muscles without input from the dog; it facilitates a muscle pumping action that can result in improved joint mobility, circulation and lymphatic drainage.
• 3b LASER THERAPY – stimulation of the body’s natural healing processes, helping to restore normal cellular function and optimise repair.
Helps with pain management and inflammation of arthritic joints reducing the sensory pain signals to the brain and stimulating release of endorphins whilst also helping with increased recovery time of wounds and recent onset injuries to muscle, skin, ligament or tendon.
• PULSED ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD THERAPY – influencing cell behaviour causing electrical changes around and within the cell.
Blood supply is improved increasing oxygen pressure which activates and regenerates cells.
Cartilage quality can be improved by improving calcium transport which increases the absorption of calcium in bones.
• MYOFACIAL RELEASE – a safe and effective way to release restriction.
Fascia is a connective tissue situated under the skin that surrounds every structure in the body; these fibres can bind together causing restriction.
• STANCE ANALYSER – quickly evaluates how a patient stands and shifts weight to show lameness issues
An integral part of every patient visit in our clinic and helps to;
<> Collect standing weight bearing assessment and removes subjectivity
<> Gives a simple report so as to discuss patient status with their owner
<> Identifying lameness and essential to prescribe pro-active, conservative treatment plans
<> Part of a wellness program and track the history of a patient’s stance and alert you to abnormalities
<> When change is detected it can support recommendations for additional diagnostics with the veterinary surgeon
• SATISFACTION GUARANTEED – always prepared for any pet’s needs
Their happiness and care is our priority and we strive to provide a service we would want our own pets to receive.
